Hi all. My time in the forum has been very limited lately. A lot of my family is very much into horses. I have 4 granddaughters who barrel race and most afternoons after school and week-ends when they are not attending a horse show or rodeo you will find them working their horses on the barrel racing track set up behind my home. 5 weeks ago my daughter fell from her horse and suffered a severe break of both bones above her ankle. The bones protruded thru the skin.
The doctors have been working to try to save her foot. Hopefully in the next few weeks they will be able to put steel plates and the healing can begin. She is staying with me and we pass each other with our walkers and wheelchair and I try to make sure she doesn't get tangled up in my oxygen tubes and we look at each other and laugh. Everyone else works so we are pretty much on our own for better or worse lol.

I am glad you are able to keep each other company during the day. Big hugs and warm wishes for you. I hope your daughter has a successful if slow recovery from such a bad accident.

It's good that you can find humor in the bad times, it helps, I know. Prayers and hugs to both of you,:inlove: I hope for great success with her recovery, and that this time will bring you closer as a family. Best wishes!

Hopefully all heals well and she can get back in the saddle. My 6 year old grandson has started doing the barrels in the rodeos, it makes me worry so much. Sending prayers for a speedy recovery your way. :)

Thank you all so much for sharing your caring and support. To be sure I am so thankful we missed the bad flooding so many got, but for the rest of the story my alternator on my car is singing like a mockingbird, my dishwasher broke, the plumbing to the kitchen sink got stopped up (thankful to have a grandson who is a plumber) that's fixed, lawnmower broke, so while we sat outside a while this afternoon to watch the weeds grow, the parish was cutting grass on the side of the highway and mowed all 4 of our mailboxes down. Now for the good side, some of the greatest people in the world here I can call my friends and I can't get any bills for a few days. Sending love and hugs back to each of you.

Thanks Willow. You are giving me more credit than I deserve. I have tried to learn not to get too annoyed at things we have control over fixing. So update is car is fixed and state accepted responsibility for mowing down mailboxes and has replaced them. Weeds still growing but it has been raining anyway. More serious note my daughter is scheduled for surgery Wednesday. They are only planing to put medal plates on smaller bone this time. Still waiting for area to heal where big bone protruded skin to put plates on that side. She has an external apparatus
screwed into her leg from knee to foot trying to hold the bones in place.
Hopefully it only comes in threes. One of my 3 year old grandsons broke his leg below knee on trampoline and 9 year old granddaughter broke her wrist when she fell at school. Bless her heart, she knew she broke it but was terrified and refused to look at it. She was there the day her aunt broke her leg and was afraid the bone had come through the skin.
JJ thank you and you do well to worry over that little one. They do brighten up our worlds don't they? Rodeoing is a dangerous sport. Have to have a lot of respect for those big animals.
Sending prayers, hugs and blessings to all.

I hope your daughter's surgery turned out good and she will have a full recovery soon. May I ask how many grandkinds you have? You mentioned at least 6.

Update on daughter. They repaired the small bone in her lower leg with a metal plate but have opted to try to let the large bone heal on it's own. She still has external apparatus to drag around with crutches. She is starting to get depressed from time to time, could be another 6 months before she can put any weight on her foot.
lol Arielh, I have enough to keep you guessing for a long time. Actually I have 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren who I refer to as grandkids because I am to lazy to type it all out. My oldest grandson is a ER Doctor and my youngest great grandchild is 2 months old. Now when you add in all the spouses we do have a houseful when we get together. A little overwhelming to newcomers, and no crystal and china. We do paper plates and paper cups with a lot of laughter. So I am indeed a blessedlady!

Yes you are:D:) Big families are so fun if the members help and love each other. All the best wishes for yours:)
I always considered my family big, I have 3 siblings many cousins and I had the chance to meet my great grandmothers but my youngest sisters didn't . My grandmother has 7 grandkids. But nowadays people don't have big families and I am excited to hear about yours. Long ago people will have 6-10 children in Greeceo_O. Now only one family in the island has 7 kids, most of them have 1 to 3.
Your update on your daughter sounds encouraging.

Update!! Two of my great grandchildren, both pre-teens and honor roll students were blessed to do things this summer that dreams are made of. My g grandson and his baseball team got to go to Cooperstown NY to play in the Youth Little League World Series. I think they came out in 32nd place. He did come home with 3 home run balls.
My g granddaughter qualified to ride in World Series Barrel Racing Event which was held in Georgia. Amazing experience as there were riders from the UK, Sweden and many other countries. They are both such humble kids its hard not to be very proud of them.

Thank you for your kind comments. G granddaughter actually qualified for World on a little rescue horse that we gave a home. As her skills have now outgrown the little mare we now have it out on loan. Can't yet detach enough to sell her.

8)Reading all these heartwarming and heartbreaking posts has my head and heart so filled with emotions, I hardly know what to say, but I'll try to sort them....

First, "When it rains, it pours" - and it seems that , in a way, you haven't missed the floods at all! So many things to go wrong so close together!! You must be a very strong person, in most every way, and humor - in which you abound - is truly a Blessing when it comes to these things. I am so relieved to hear that many of those things have been resolved!!

This must be such a hard time for your granddaughter, too. Perhaps she is also worried about ever riding again as she used to ride - and as a horse person who spent some time with rodeos, I certainly commiserate with her! Perhaps part of her possible depression is worrying whether or not she will be able to return to it at her former level. Has the Dr. given his opinion of this yet? Perhaps some encouraging words from him might help?
I do feel that her being with you and seeing your attitude, with all YOU have to deal with!:inlove:, will have a very positive effect on her, even if she might not know it yet! Her being with you is a very good place for her to be right now, as she has the opportunity to learn some valuable Life-lessons! My heart goes out to her, and I hope that, eventually, she will be back in the saddle again. <3<3<3

Wow! What an amazing family you have!! Looove your attitude and practicality of paper plates and paper cups! Like Brookeham, I also come from a teeny tiny family, and though I love how my family was so close and unified growing up, I did miss all the reunions and large get-togethers that I would hear others talk about.

You have so much to love and be happy with, as you obviously are.....so why bother getting upset with all the 'little' things that happen - your humor is just the right attitude to deal with them - and it seems like you DO! :)

Each time you count your many Blessings, I hope you will add mine for you and yours to that very long list!:inlove::inlove:
