Huge hugs from the reindeer at this difficult time and a special smooch from Hector as a baby.

Brooke I'm a lot happier today. Her mother is a lot less stressy, so she has fed with me at a distance... So I have now seen them feeding several times... A lot happier but baby is still a little behind & a little fragile but a lot more positive now.. :)

So good when you can see them feeding (and nourishment being recycled, lol). Actually I like that momma is very protective.

Congratulations on 4 live births Karen, I'm very very happy for you.! Your heart must just gush with happiness when you sit out in the pasture and watch all your babies. Mine would. The video was perfect of Lexi and Thor, it was very tranquil and clamming (and adorable). I know the Momma's did all the "work" but it has to be so gratifying for you to have had such a successful season this time. Pat yourself on the back, your love and care for your herd works wonders!

Thanks so much for sharing your calving season with us Karen. This whole thread with all of your pics, updates and videos is a very much needed bright spot for me. Your post to me with Hector's baby pic made me cry... :):):cry:but it's a happy cry. Kiss that sweet little nose for me, if he will let you:p

Congratulations again, and Thank You for your kind thoughts/sentiments.
Fingers crossed for that littlest baby girl.:inlove:

I gave him a huge smooch for you Guinea, but I think he got the wrong idea as he followed me, like a shadow, across the "non calving" paddock and tried to jump on me (luckily youngsters are very light)!!! He got told off! I thought I liked the idea of being part of their herd but in Hectors case I may need to remind him I am human!!!!

New baby girl now has a name. She is Freya. She is a little stronger today and her mother is feeding her & a lot less stressy but I have had to take over "bottom cleaning duties" as the sun & flies were out and her rear was a little messy. (As tiny babies, their tummies and bottoms need stimulating to produce faeces but the resultant, toothpaste consistency, should also be cleaned by mothers).

Will try to get a better photo of Freya tomorrow if Ana chills more. Daren't lay on the ground next to Freya or at the moment Ana would stamp on me! :( She really is grunty and shakes her head, threateningly, when I approach her baby - so unlike the other girls!

The baby is so soft and fluffy. You feel as if you can take her and hug her. If we do that I am sure her mother would bite our head off.

It isn't the first time - the little Monkey!

Now this photo today of Lexi I find a bit spooky (it is a shame it isn't better quality) but it looks as if she is blowing a kiss. It isn't photoshopped but must have caught her mid chew..

And an update photo of baby Freya. She is continuing to improve. On this photo you can just see the edge of her large brown spot on her chest.

What's the status on the red hoof? Has it gotten more of a normal color? Can't remember which hoof it was but the one I can see here looks pretty good. :)

You know everyone will be envious of all the lovely babies this year! :inlove:

I'll take that Lexy kiss! :music:Even if it was "mid chew" one. LOL Gosh, she is so beautiful!!! I'm thrilled Freya is continuing to do well. Ana is being a good protective Momma...perhaps she senses her wee one is a bit fragile......or is Ana a bit more wild?

It was the undersides of ALL hooves, they are still very pink (which isn't too abnormal for pale calves when FIRST born) but when she was born they were the colour of blood - think the picture I posted was about 30 hours after birth and they weren't as bad as at birth... Don't know that there is an appropriate picture to post as haven't added to FB (as copying those is the only way I can upload to here.. but I'll check).... Just checked.... one of my scary photo's of early morning checks, when they all seem DEAD! You can see the undersides look far better...

Brooke - Ana is very wild still but before her calf arrived she was wild but frightened of her own shadow... now she will take on the World (she is calming a bit though everyday) thank goodness as she seemed to want to charge me! :)
